Down From The Sky

May 14th, 2010

Tears rain down from the sky…

Water runs on the pavement, searching for the sewers. Raindrops fall steadily, dancing to their own rhythm.

Fire rains down from the sky…

Thunder threatens, echoing though the land. It warns of the danger to come.

Tears rain down from the sky…

Wind swirls around, moving through the trees. It is free.

Fire rains down from the sky…

The figure moves, silently. A sword falls from an outstretched hand.

Tears rain down from the sky…

The tears of the sky wash over the bloodstained metal, cleansing, purifying. Even if they can wash away the evidence, they cannot erase the memories.

I’ve opened up my eyes, seen the world for what it’s worth…

Tears rain down from the sky.

Gary’s Sing A Song

September 21st, 2009

In a French accent

Ahhhh night time, Time for sleep, time for silence, time for…

What is this, Gary meowing when it should be quiet? Let’s see what he is up to hmm?

In tune of Linkin park’s given up

“Meow Meow Meow Meeeeooooow” Gary sang

“Looks like Gary has been listening to linkin park again,” said Spongebob while getting ready for bed.

“That snail has the most amazing voice,” Patrick Yawned.

“He has such a way with words,” Sandy complemented.

“Does this snail have to do this every night while I’m trying to get some sleep?” Squidward did his usual moan while snuggling down next to his clarinet.

Even though Squidward moaned Gary carried on singing with the sound if drums and guitar beginning to be heard.

“Meow Meow Meeow Meeeeooooow”

“Oh no not another sing a long, it’s not even Tuesday,” Squidward pulled his pillow over his head while Spongebob started singing.

“It’s late at night again

Another day has just finished

Has just finished”Spongebob sang.

“I Think I might now sleep

But I might stay up all night

Up all night” Sandy continued.

“This is Gary’s song” Patrick Carries on

Spongebob and Gary sing the chorus

“Meow meow meeow Meeeeoooow”

“Sing it Gary, Sing the night away”

“Meow Meow Meeeeoooow Meow”

“Squidward’s moaning, Why is he always in a grump, every night”

The song ends and Squidward is pleased.

“Thank you Neptune now I can get some sleep”

At that moment the sun rises and the usual sound of Spongebob’s chanting is heard.

“I’m ready; I’m ready, good morning Squidward ready for a great day at work!” Spongebob shouted through Squidward’s window.

“Grrrrrrr”

French accent (again)

Poor Squidward, well at least I enjoyed a good night’s sleep Goodbye and if you hear a cat meowing in the night don’t throw a shoe at it, think of a good rock song you can make up with tune.

The First Days Of School

September 10th, 2009

After getting lost several times in school today, I just decided to stick with a group. I learned where homeroom was on the first day, so that wasn’t too hard to find. The Music room, the Phys Ed room, and change room, being on the first floor, were easy to find, since there aren’t a lot of classrooms on the first floor. However, the Science class was difficult to find, even though it’s on the same floor as our lockers. After Science, I got lost, and it took me a while to find my locker.

Homeroom, the first class of the day, is on the second floor. Our lockers are on the third floor. Does that make sense? Why couldn’t the lockers be on the same floor as the homeroom? And why do they have to be on the highest floor? I have two classes on the first floor, and I have to chug around my stuff for both classes because I can’t risk being late for me to grab my stuff from a locker that is two floors away.

Even though I live right across the street, I still manage to be late for the first class. Oops. I guess that’s why time management is important.

Lunch is okay. The cafeteria food pretty good, and not that expensive. Today, I had the best plate of undercooked pasta. Seriously, it was undercooked. But it was still tasty.
Lunch is 50 minutes, and most people think that is barely any time, but I really don’t see what I would do with my self for a full 50 minutes, since eating only takes about 30 minutes maximum.

A Pleasant Camping Trip

July 28th, 2009

After a long, refreshing swim in the cold, blue lake, miles away from civilization, I dove into my warm, bright pink sleeping bag, inside my new tent. To my surprise, I zipped up the sleeping bag with no effort at all, successfully encasing myself. As I started at the blue coloured walls of the dome shaped shelter, I drifted off to sleep.

Little did I know that both the sleeping bag and the tent I bought were both defective.

Later in the night, I woke up to the itch of mosquito bites on my face. I tried to scratch them, but I quickly realized that I was trapped inside my newly bought sleeping bag, and the zipper was broken. I wiggled around a bit, struggling to get out of the sleeping bag. In my desperation to free myself, I failed to notice the breeze in my tent.

After managing to get both arms out of the sleeping bag, I was ambushed by a swarm of mosquitoes. How did they get inside my tent? Blinded by the dark, I searched for the bug spray with my hands, hoping to repel the vicious blood suckers. Thankfully, I found the bottle and quickly sprayed it around my head in an attempt to save what was left of my face. I quickly realized that I had grapped the wrong bottle, and I felt the extra strong bear spray do it’s damage.

As I clutch my face in pain, the tent collapsed. I cursed myself for having chosen the largest tent in stock, as I swam through the thick folds of fabric, lost. After suffocating on the material for quite a while, I found an opening. While tears poured from my eyes, I hopped out of the giant tent with my sleeping bag still closed around my body.

I looked up to see the moon, and the dark grey rain clouds hovering around it. I stood there, furious, for the rest of the night getting soaked by the pouring rain.

The manufacturer of the tent was definitely going to hear about this.

Paris

July 27th, 2009

My mother and I went to Paris from June 30th to July 7th.

Eiffel TowerOur flight was with the airline Air Canada. It was a 7 hour flight. Since our flight was delayed with one hour, we arrived in the afternoon. We were greeted by my aunt who came from Sweden and my brother who came from Czech. Then we left for our hotel using the metro.

The metro system in Paris is well designed. To enter, first you have to buy metro tickets in a ticket office. These are small pieces of paper that have a line on the back, which makes them valid. After you purchase the tickets, you enter the metro by inserting your ticket into a slot on a machine. The ticket comes out another slot and, if the ticket is valid, you can pass through. After the ticket has been used, it is marked with numbers to prevent the person from using the ticket again.

There are many metro lines, so you can get anywhere in Paris with a combination of the metro and walking. There is RER, which is somewhat like a subway and a train combined. The tickets for the RER cost more. There are also trains.

With one ticket, you can switch between any metro lines as long as you don’t leave the station, unless you are going on RER or on a train.
On the roads there are buses, but its easier to take the metro, because the road traffic is slow.

I think this system is really well designed, because the tickets ensure that there are no forgeries. The windows are left open because, unfortunately, there is no air conditioning.

Our hotel was the Comfort Inn Saint Pierre, located on 10 rue de Clignacourt. It’s a small, four story hotel. We stayed in room 16 on the first floor. In Europe, the first floor is different from the main floor, and in North America it would be known as the second floor. The main floor would be the zero floor, and any sub levels would be negative numbers.

The hotel room was comfy, with beds, a bathroom, a cupboard, and a TV. The bathroom was equipped with towels, soap and gel. There was a window in the room since there was no air conditioning.

The closest metro stations were Anvers and Barbès Rochechouart, both about a block away from our hotel.  When we arrived, we got out of the station of Gare du Nord, since we used the train, but it was still pretty close.

After we got settled in the hotel, we ate some food that my aunt bought from the grocery store next door, and we went for a walk to Sacrè Coeur, which is a famous church.

Camp

July 26th, 2009

August, 2008

I went to Camp Kearney from July 25th to August 12th. I was in a group called Intro to Wilderness. Camp Kearney is part of S.O.E.S., the Scarborough Outdoor Education School. It is in the town of Kearney, Ontario, and it is close to the Algonquin Park area. It takes about 4 hours to get there by bus from Scarborough. I went on a coach bus.

When I got there, I was clean, my clothes were clean, my luggage neatly packed, and I had few mosquito bites. Things didn’t stay that way for long.

The lodge is the main building of the camp and is where the meals are held.

The counsellors were very friendly and really funny. They made camp an enjoyable experience. They were more like friends than they were like counsellors.

Sunset In The Hills

Sunset In The Hills

The cabins that Intro to Wilderness campers stayed in are the eco cabins. The eco cabins use solar energy and they are about 10 minutes away from the lodge. The campers’ bathrooms are not in the eco cabins but in another building nearby. They are in a barn-like building. They use solar energy and have a timer for the light. There are three stalls, two showers and three sinks in each bathroom. Right beside them is another barn-like building called the Straw Bale House.

This is the staff bathroom. Beside the bathrooms there is a volleyball court and a gaga ball court. The gaga ball court is wooden, shaped like an octagon. The rules of gaga ball are: if the ball hits your legs you are out, every time you hit the ball you have to say “gaga” or you will be out, if you hit the ball out of the court you are out and the goal of the game is to be the last person out. I really like this game and I won it a few times!

The nights were beautiful and the sky would be full of stars.

We would look for constellations. I would always be able to find the Big Dipper quickly, and after searching the sky a little more I would be able to find the Little Dipper.

As for meals, we received them three times a day; breakfast, lunch and dinner. Intro had breakfast with the Discoverers before the canoe trip. Since Intro is an older group, we had late meals. That meant we had our meals after the younger groups. For breakfast we had cereal and the main course. For lunch we had soup, the main course and dessert. For dinner we had the main course and dessert.
