Movie Review – June, 2007
1. What are the three main or big ideas in the film? One of the main ideas is that humans are breaking the food chains, disturbing the eco system. This could lead to endangered and then extinct animals. The movie shows that a penguin population was endangered by the lack of fish. Also there were birds in the movie that eat fish as well as penguins. They didn’t have any fish so they started to eat the penguins more. This way the penguins die both ways by starvation and by being eaten.
The next main idea is that if some one is lacking a common skill (in this case it was singing) but has other skills (dancing) we have to accept and use them for good instead of criticizing them. It was because of Mumble’s dancing “Happy Feet’ that the penguins got their fish back.
The third main idea is that character and determination could count more than some common skill in your community. It’s better to have good character and develop your own special skill for the best of all.
2. What is the intended audience? How do you know? Give examples from the film.
I think that the intended audience is “all ages” even though this movie is a cartoon. It’s fun to watch it as a family. Both children and adults could enjoy and learn from it. We could learn about the environment and about group rules. Group rules include the belief of a community and the way they act through that belief. They could be wrong about their belief as long as that could lead to exclude members of the group that have different skills than the group encouraged.
3. What did the film makers do to make this film appealing?
They made it fun to watch.
4. How were special effects used? What were your favorite special effects?
The special effects were used to make the movie funny and more understandable. The penguins were talking, singing, dancing and even thinking like human beings. Those are my favorite effects.
5. How would you rate this movie?
10/10 I loved it!
